- Helen was born on June 27th,1880 to Kate Adams Keller and Captain Arthur Henley Keller.
- Born and raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
- Lost seeing and hearing ability at 18 months old.
- Lost sight and hearing due to a high fever from an unknown illness.
- Learned manual sign language by Anne Sullivan.
- Helen first learned everything had a name by just feeling it.
- Attended Perkins Institute as first school where she was considered a “guest” student.
- Anne Sullivan arrived on March 3rd 1887 she began teaching Helen manual sign language.
- Anne was Helen’s private teacher and companion from 1887 until Anne died in 1936.
- Spring 1890 Helen was taught to speak and began rapidly greeting her family.
- In 1900 Helen became a member of the freshman class at Radcliffe college.
- Helen had no special treatment besides Braille tests and books.
- Helen’s winters were spent in New England from 1888-1889 this was her inspiration for her story, several years later.
- November 1916 Helen got engaged to Peter Fagan but Helen goes to Alabama to visit family so the relationship fades.
- Spring 1904 Anne and Helen purchased a house on 7 acres of land in Wrentham, Massachusetts.
- Helen died on June 1st,1968.
